This is a quality product. Both lamp and magnifier lens are excellent, giving clear, distortion-free viewing. Comments by others about difficulty of assembly are accurate, but easily overcome. My only complaints are with the difficulty in setting the correct tension in the flexible arm to keep the lamp in place in various positions and the fact that the forward travel of the flexible arm is limited. I am very satisfied with this almost great inspection lamp.

Ultra-Efficient 90 LED Magnifier Lamp - Adjustable Arm - 5" Lens

I had recently worn out the lighted magnifier I use for electronics work. A lot of the gear I build and repair uses surface-mount components, the most-common-size of which is 2 by 1.25 millimeters. At almost age 60, it's a challenge to my vision.

My old magnifier had a 3-diopter lens, so I was very pleased to find the additional magnification of the 5-diopter lens on this model.

The dual CFL lamps provide even lighting, though sometimes I'd still welcome more of it.

The arm stays where it's put, and the friction settings are well-calibrated.

The only optical problem I have with the lens is that there's some diffraction/refraction (whichever it is!) error that results in some color-banding toward the edges of the lens. Viewing the work through the center of the lens is fine, though.

Just as with reading glasses, the trade-off for additional magnification is that depth-of-field is decreased, meaning that spacing between lens and work is more critical. For me, though, the added magnification is more than worth it.

I'm satisfied with this product.

We had the forerunner of this item, which we purchased about 20 years ago. NOT just for seniors folks...anyone would benefit from having one of these. It has lasted well with only 2 bulb replacements, until one of the joints finally succumbed to metal fatigue from years of daily use.

I have done needlepoint for most of my life. However, because my eyesight is not what it used to be, it reached the point where I couldn't see the holes in the canvas very well and ended up being very frustrated when I didn't get the desired results, not to mention the cost of the canvas and yarn. Grandrich ML-100 WHT Clip-On Magnifier Lamp

The lamp is difficult to position, but, with exaggerated movements it can be placed where you need it. Once in place it works very well. At first I had trouble with the holding clamp. It would come loose and the lamp would fall. Fortunately it also has the option to screw the base to the work surface. I did that with two wood screws and the problem was solved. Overall reccommeded but you have to overcome these two difficulties. Far better than the heavy base goose neck lamp. I had one and trashed it for this one. I reccommend you get the black one. Better light.

This lamp is well made and nicely finished. The lamp head is quality plastic. I expected the same manufacturer as the excellent MagLite flashlight, (Mag Instruments) from the name, but it was a different firm. The flip-up cover makes a useful dust shield for the lens, and the light output is quite uniform. Well worth the money.

I have nothing but good to say about this product. Keeping in mind its low price, the optics, quality and function are far above what I expected. One buyer mentioned a problem with his unit tipping forward; the design must have been upgraded since his purchase because mine is virtually tip proof.
